How Do Change the Power Steering Fluid on a 2000 Ford Expedition?

The Ford Expedition was first introduced in 1997, and is still being produced. Two models are available: the XLT, which has all the power options; and the Eddie Bauer, which includes leather seats and eye candy. The power steering on a 2000 Ford Expedition is subject to moisture contamination over a period time. Sediment contamination is less common but possible through inside deterioration of the hoses, which can release rubber particulate into the fluid. The power steering fluid should have a clear appearance. Contamination is indicated by a brownish color. When this happens, changing the fluid will extend the service life of the pump and seals, not to mention the steering gear.

Instructions

    1

Remove the cap on the power steering pump reservoir. Start the engine. Siphon half of the power steering fluid out of the reservoir and empty it into the drain bucket. Fill the siphon with new power steering fluid and refill the reservoir. Repeat the process of siphoning out half the fluid in the reservoir and discarding it.

    2

Fill the reservoir with new fluid. The pump is continuously circulating the fluid through the system and by continuously siphoning and refilling the reservoir it will quickly clean the system.

    3

Watch the fluid as you continue the process. When the fluid runs clear in the reservoir, upon siphoning the fluid out for the last time, add the power steering sealer to the reservoir. Add the power steering stabilizer and replace the cap on the reservoir.
