If the cooling system on your vehicle is note serviced on a regular basis, it is important to check the engine's core plugs. The plugs, which are made of steel, can become rusty when the cooling system's filled with water after a leak is repaired. It is best to check the engine's core plugs as part of your routine vehicle maintenance.
Instructions
- 1
Inspect the core plugs for any sign of fluid leakage.
2Run your fingers around the core plugs feeling for dampness.
3Use a flashlight to illuminate any areas where core plugs are hard to see. Some engines have them located on the back as well as on the sides.
4Hold an inspection mirror near the core plugs that are not easy to see. You'll need to use a flashlight to help locate the plugs.
5Shine the flashlight onto the mirror and the light will bounce onto the core plug. If there is a leak, it will reflect back onto the mirror.
