While recent research suggests the tech startup sector has the potential to support 540,000 jobs and to contribute $109bn to our economy, there still remains a disproportionately low number of women starting their own tech businesses in Australia at the moment. We want to change this. So, next Wednesday, we will host our first Google for Entrepreneurs Women’s Meetup to kickstart conversations about how we can stimulate an innovation generation in Australia.
The aim of Google for Entrepreneurs Women’s Meetups is to create a community that can support the growing number of women led startups and to help local female entrepreneurs collaborate, learn and grow alongside some of Australia’s most successful startup founders.
The first Women’s Meetup will be on Wednesday 26 June at Google’s offices in Pyrmont, Sydney. Google’s Kendalle Bennett will open the event by discussing how small businesses can embed creativity and innovation into their digital marketing initiatives. Following Kendalle’s presentation, we will hold a panel featuring three successful women in the startup and tech communities.
The panelists for this event will include Jo Burston, Managing Director and Founder of Job Capital, Naomi Simson, Founder of RedBalloon, and Claire Hatton, Industry Director, Travel, Government and Education, Australia & New Zealand at Google. The panel will be chaired by Sally-Ann Williams, Engineering Community and Outreach Manager at Google. There will also be the opportunity for attendees to submit their questions to the panel prior to the event.
Google started as nothing more than a crazy start-up idea in a garage and our hope is that the Women’s Meetups series will help empower the next wave of entrepreneurs to build and scale successful online businesses in Australia. Please register your interest here if you’d like to attend our first event and remember to include a question for the panel.
