The most-watched ads on YouTube, down under

When we review the most popular videos on YouTube each year, a number of advertisements always make the list. Great video content, that people want to watch, comment on, and share, can come from anywhere—and while it’s sometimes from kitchens or car seats, it’s often created by great marketers and their agencies.

That’s why we’ve teamed up with AdNews to put together the YouTube Ads Leaderboard—a list of the best performing YouTube ads of the previous three months, and the creative agencies that made them happen.  As you’ll see from the inaugural Leaderboard, Australian YouTube viewers are captivated by ads of all stripes—long form and short, from big brands and smaller businesses, some adapted from TV spots and some built specifically for YouTube. Many of these ads are still seeing hundreds of thousands of views, embeds, and shares many months after they were uploaded, showing that some of our favourite all-time videos are, in fact, ads.

This quarter, three out of the top ten ads are from Australia, showing that local ads are cutting through with local audiences and being viewed and shared on a par with some of the most creative work coming from overseas. Enjoy the list below and tune in next quarter for another batch of advertising creativity.
