How to Tune a 383 Stroker

The 383 Stroker is an eight-cylinder engine made by Chevrolet that has a standard 350 block and an altered 400 crank. The altered crankshaft increases the number of piston strokes, which allows more air into the cylinders, which equates to a higher horsepower. The 383 Stroker is essentially a custom engine that can be built and installed into vehicles with the proper clearance. Because of its sheer horsepower, it is sometimes installed into muscle cars like the Chevy Camaro. Tuning up the Stroker is a standard part of its maintenance.

Instructions

    1

Use the socket set to remove the negative battery cable.

    2

Locate the four spark plugs on the right side of the engine block.

    3

Pull the spark plug wire off of the first plug on the right side of the block. Use the socket set to remove the spark plug.

    4

Thread in the new plug by hand, then tighten it with the socket set. Replace the spark plug wire by hand. Move on to the next plug and repeat the procedure. Continue this until all of the plugs have been changed on the right side of the engine block, and then move on to replacing the plugs on the left side of the engine block in the same fashion.

    5

Unscrew the wing nut holding in place the air filter cover. Set aside the wing nut and the cover. Remove the old air filter, set the new filter in its place, replace the cover and hand-tighten the wing nut to hold it in place.
