The Isuzu Trooper hit U.S showrooms in the early 1980s and it continuously evolved into a more comfortable and refined SUV through each generational change. The Trooper reached its pinnacle in its final generation, which lasted from 1998 through 2002. Part of the refinement process of this SUV was the streamlining and smoothing of the exterior lights. Replacing the turn signal lights on the 2001 Trooper requires removing the light assemblies to access the bulbs they contain.
Instructions
Front Turn Signal Light
- 1
Open the Troopers hood and trace the arm on the top of the turn signal lens assembly until you reach its mounting screw.
2Remove the lens assemblys mounting screw with a ratchet and socket, and pull the turn signal assembly away from the front of the Isuzu just enough to access the sockets on the rear of it.
3Twist the upper socket counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the socket from the turn signal lens assembly, exposing the turn signal light.
4Press the turn signal light downward and rotate it counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the light from the socket. Make a note of how the staggered protrusions on the base of the bulb are positioned, as you must install the new light in the same position.
5Hold a new style 1157A bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth and position its metal protrusions in the same way the old bulb was positioned. Press the bulb into the socket and keep downward pressure as you turn it clockwise to lock it into place. If the bulb does not turn, it means you have it in the wrong position. In this case, remove the bulb, rotate it 180 degrees and repeat this step.
6Insert the socket and new bulb into the turn signal lens assembly and twist the socket clockwise to lock it into place. Guide the turn signal lens assembly into its bed in the front of the SUV until the screw hole in the assemblys arm aligns with the screw hole under the Troopers hood.
7Thread the turn signal lens assembly screw by hand, then tighten it with a ratchet and socket.
8Close the Troopers hood.
Rear Turn Signal Light
- 9
Remove the rear combination light assembly the assembly containing the brake, turn signal and reverse lights by removing its two retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver and pulling the assembly out far enough to access the light sockets on the rear of it.
10Twist the upper light socket counterclockwise to unlock it and pull the socket from the combination light assembly, exposing the rear turn signal light.
11Follow steps 4 and 5 in the Front Turn Signal Light section to remove the old light and install a new style 1156A bulb.
12Insert the bulb and socket back into the combination light assembly and twist the socket clockwise to lock it into place.
13Guide the rear combination light assembly into its bed on the rear of the SUV and tighten its two retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
