How to Fix a Door That Will Not Close in Icy Weather on a 2001 Ford Taurus

The 1986 release of the Taurus helped rejuvenate Ford's decreasing sales and popularity. The 2000 model year brought about the third redesign of the popular Taurus. This redesign eliminated the oval body design in favor of a more modern body style. As with all Taurus models, the 2001 Taurus came as a four-door model only. If one of your Taurus's four doors will not close in icy weather, you can fix this using chemicals available at almost any auto parts store.

Instructions

    1

Open the door and leave it open. Locate the door latch on the rearmost part of the doorjamb.

    2

Spray door lock deicer through the hole in the door latch -- you cannot actually see the majority of the internal latch components, as the latches are sealed, so spray the deicer liberally.

    3

Wait for the amount of time specified by the door lock deicer's instructions. Attempt to close the door. If the door does not latch shut, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the door latches shut.

    4

Spray the door latch with a multipurpose spray grease meeting Ford specification No. ESA-M1C93-B or ESR-M1C159-A once the door closes correctly. This prevents the door from freezing again.
