You can replace the gauges in your 1985 Chevrolet Suburban with digital gauges in a few minutes with the appropriate tools. Digital gauges are easier to read when driving and allow you to have a better sense of speed and how much fuel you have left. To install the gauges, you will need to replace the entire instrument cluster, which is a fairly simple procedure. Clusters with digital gauges can be purchased online or from your local Chevrolet dealership.
Instructions
- 1
Lift the Suburban's hood and disconnect the battery from the vehicle. Use a socket wrench to remove the negative terminal from the battery.
2Remove the two screws from the upper plastic cover above the cluster with a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the cover.
3Remove the four screws from the cluster itself. Pull the cluster out and disconnect the three wiring connectors at the rear of the cluster. Remove the cluster from the Suburban.
4Place the cluster with the digital gauges into the Suburban. Reattach the three wiring connectors and the four screws. Reattach the plastic cover and its two screws.
5Reconnect the battery and close the Suburban's hood.
