Before/After:: Revitalizing a Lamp

For the cost of a piece of sandpaper and a can of spray paint, you can achieve a completely different look to update a lamp.  Using a can of spray paint may seem daunting at first, but trust us, it is super easy!

First, tape off all the areas you DON'T want to paint!  We coiled the cord, and taped with green Frog tape.  We made sure that the area with the on/off switch was also covered.

We chose the paint based on recommendations from others, and it worked great.  The Rust-Oleum brand has several metallic paints and we used Oil Rubbed Bronze.  The back of the can recommended sanding with a fine-grit sandpaper.

After sanding all around the exposed part of the lamp base, we wiped it off with a damp paper towel.  Then it was time to spray!  Just shake the can for 60 seconds, and keep the spray moving.  After one coat, it looked great.  We did a light second coat just to be sure.

Then we added a new lampshade, and viola :::  instant remake.  A success!!!
