How to Tint a Corvette C6 Rear Window

How to Tint a Corvette C6 Rear Window

The Corvette C6 is a sleek sports car that has a low to the ground appearance that provides a stylish and smooth ride for the driver. Adding tint to the rear window on this already attractive car can seem like a challenge, considering how little room there is to work with, however this is actually a relatively simple job. Most of the work is done on the exterior of the car, which makes installing the tint on the rear window a breeze.

Instructions

    1

Start in a clean area that is well lit and free of dust. The temperature should be between 40 degrees and 98 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid any air bubbles or hardening of the film or adhesive.

    2

Mix one cap full of baby shampoo with one quart of water inside a spray bottle and spray the liquid on the exterior surface of the rear window.

    3

Clean the rear window with a squeegee to remove any dirt or dust. Wipe squeegee with a paper towel after each streak to remove water and dirt.

    4

Cover exterior of window with baby shampoo and water mix and unroll tint film over the exterior window. Smooth down the tint to a bubble free finish with the squeegee.

    5

Carve around the rim of the window to make a template of tint to adhere, removing any excess tint with a razor blade. Leave the film on the window until prompted to remove.

    6

Clean the interior side of the window with the baby shampoo and water mix. Squeegee away any dirt or dust and remove water and dirt from squeegee with a paper towel. Clean surface once dry with a lint free cloth, and then re-wet the surface with the baby shampoo and water mix.

    7

Lift the top corner of the tint film by inserting your fingernail under the corner. Press one small piece of clear tape against each side and gently pull them apart, then remove the protective cover from the tint.

    8

Lift tint film off the window and place it along the interior side of the window. Gently smooth down any bubbles with your hand. Apply shampoo and water mix to cover the entire film.

    9

Grip your plastic card in your writing hand and hold the heat gun in the opposite hand. Apply heat on the highest level to the film and smooth down the tint while applying heat in a consistent manner. Avoid applying heat to one spot for any length of time or shrinking may occur.

    10

Work from the center of the film with the plastic card towards the edges until the surface is smooth and free of bubbles.
