How to Restore Headlamp Lenses on a Car

Over time, humidity can wreak havoc on your car's headlamp covers. When this happens, plastic covers can become foggy and turn yellow. This can reduce the performance of your headlamps and become dangerous in extreme cases. Luckily there is a simple fix to this problem that you can do at home. All of the materials needed can be purchased at an auto parts store.

Instructions

    1

Remove your foggy headlamp cover. Carefully follow the instruction in your car's manual.

    2

Fill the bucket with clean water.

    3

Dip the 600-grit sandpaper in the water and wet sand the inside of the lens. Continue to sand until the surface is smooth.

    4

Wet sand with 800 grit-sandpaper until smooth.

    5

Wet sand with 1,000-grit sandpaper until smooth.

    6

Wet sand with 1,200-grit sandpaper. This grade of sandpaper will actually begin to polish the headlamp.

    8

Put your polished headlight cover back on your vehicle.
