How to Reset a 2007 Hyundai Tucson "Check Engine" Light

The check engine light on a 2007 Hyundai Tucson is designed to alert the driver when specific mechanical or electrical problems occur. The vehicles powertrain control module actively monitors the vehicles systems for various problems. When these problems occur, the PCM stores a diagnostic trouble code, or DTC, in its internal memory and illuminates the check engine light. In order to reset the check engine light, these codes must be cleared from the PCMs memory with an automotive scan tool.

Instructions

    1

Shift the Tucsons transmission into Park and turn off the engine. Apply the emergency brake and turn the ignition back to the ON position. Do not start the engine.

    2

Connect the automotive scan tools data cable to the Tucsons diagnostic data port. This port is located under the dashboard, on the drivers side of the vehicle, just above the pedal area.

    3

Power on the scan tool and select PCM from the main menu. Choose Diagnostic Trouble Codes from the PCM menu. Select Clear All DTC Data from Diagnostic Trouble Codes menu.

    4

Select Yes when the scan tool asks if you want to erase all DTC data.

    5

Disconnect the scan tool, start the engine and verify that the check engine light is off.
