How to Remove the Car Stereo on a 2007 Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla came to the United States in 1968 two years after its Japanese release as a simple, no-frills vehicle designed to give buyers an economical option to V-8 muscle cars. By the time 2007 rolled around, the Corolla had seen nine generations and had come a long way in its sophistication. The 2007 Corolla came standard with desirable features, including power mirrors, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel and an AM-FM stereo system with a CD player. Removing the 2007 Corollas CD player requires special care, so not to break any plastic panels as you pry them off.

Removal

    1

    Twist the manual gear shifter knob, if equipped, counterclockwise to loosen it from the gear shifter and pull the shifter knob off the gear shifter.

    Pry around the perimeter of the gear shifter bezel the trim panel surrounding the gear shifter to disengage the six clips holding the gear shifter bezel to the center console. Pull upward until you can access the wiring on the rear of the power outlet. Pull the wiring harness from the rear of the power outlet. Remove the bezel from the center console guide the shifter boot off the gear shifter, if applicable.

    Pull the center climate control knob from the climate control panel, exposing a screw behind it. Remove this screw with a Phillips screwdriver.

    Remove the climate control bezel the trim surrounding the climate-control knobs and clock by prying the panel away from the dashboard with a flathead screwdriver. The bezel has four metal retaining clips and four retaining claws holding it into place.

    Look under the radio bezel the trim surrounding the radio and find the four retaining screws. Remove these four screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Pry around the perimeter of the radio bezel to disengage its four retaining clips and two retaining claws.

    Pull the radio bezel, with the radio attached, from the dashboard until you can access the wiring harnesses on the rear of the radio. Press and hold the unlocking button on each wiring harness and pull each harness from the rear of the radio. Pull the antenna wire from the rear of the radio.

    Find the four claws holding the radio in place in the radio bezel two upper and two lower claws. Pry upward on each claw and slide that part of the radio rearward to disengage all of the claws. Slide the radio from the radio bezel.

Installation

    Slide the radio into the radio bezel until the retaining claws snap into place. Press the wiring harnesses into the receptacles on the rear of the radio and press the antenna wire into its receptacle on the rear of the radio.

    Insert the radio bezel and radio into the dashboard and press it toward the dashboard until the retaining clips and claws snap into place. Tighten the four screws into the underside of the radio bezel with a Phillips screwdriver.

    Line up the retaining clips on the rear of the climate-control bezel up with the slots in the dashboard and press the bezel onto the dashboard until the four retaining clips and four retaining claws snap into place. Tighten the bezels retaining screw behind where the center climate-control knob goes with a Phillips screwdriver. Press the climate-control knob onto its shaft the shaft is asymmetrical, so it can only mount one way.

    Guide the shifter boot over the manual gear shifter, if applicable. Plug the wiring harness into the power outlet on the shifter bezel. Line up the retaining clips on the backside of the gear shifter bezel with the slots in the center console, and press the shifter bezel onto the center console.

    Tighten the gear shifter knob manual transmission only onto the gear shifter stalk.
