How to Program a New Remote for a 2003 Buick LeSabre

General Motors introduced the LeSabre nameplate on an ultra-modern 1951 concept car. In 1959, Buick added a less high-tech version of the LeSabre to its lineup. The 2003 LeSabre came standard with a 205-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 engine. This full-sized, luxury Buick also came standard with power door locks and a keyless entry system. The keyless entry system uses radio frequency along with a rolling code system to lock and unlock the doors from a distance. When you purchase a new remote for the 2003 LeSabre, you must program the remote before it will work on the vehicle. This process requires a special tool, known as an OBD-II diagnostic scanner; the tool must have programming capabilities.

    Locate the OBD-II diagnostic port under the driver's side of the dashboard. Plug an OBD-II diagnostic scanner with programming capabilities into the OBD-II diagnostic port.

    Turn the LeSabre's ignition to the "On" position, but don't start the vehicle. Turn on the OBD-II diagnostic tool and navigate the tool to "Remote function actuation special function" menu, then select "Program key fobs." This process varies on each diagnostic scanner, so follow the prompts given by the tool.

    Listen for the doors to lock and unlock, indicating the LeSabre's door lock receiver is in program mode.

    Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the new remote for 15 seconds, and listen for the doors to lock and unlock, indicating programming is complete.

    Repeat Step 4 for up to four remotes.

    Turn the ignition to the "Off" position and unplug the OBD-II diagnostic tool.
