How to Install a Silverado Hanger

Installing an exhaust hanger on the Chevrolet Silverado can be completed in about 30 minutes. The exhaust hanger is made of rubber and designed to slide over the hanger rods on the vehicle frame and the exhaust pipe without any tools. Occasionally, the hanger can wear out and break, requiring the hanger be replaced for the exhaust pipe to ride smoothly under the vehicle.

Instructions

    1

Drive the Chevrolet Silverado onto a flat, level surface and place the transmission in "Park." Set the parking brake and place a wood block in front of one of the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.

    2

Lift the vehicle up in the back with a floor jack and slide a jackstand under the rear axle so it is high enough that you can work comfortably under the vehicle. Lower the floor jack and remove it from the vehicle.

    3

Let the exhaust pipe cool down and slide the hanger off the hanger rods on the exhaust pipe and the vehicle frame. Slide the new rubber hanger over the hanger rod on the vehicle frame and slide the lower end of the hanger over the rod on the exhaust pipe.

    4

Lift the vehicle up with the floor jack and remove the jackstand. Lower the floor jack and remove it from under the vehicle. Remove the wood block from the front wheel.
