General Sherman Tree - The World's Largest Tree

The General Sherman is a giant sequoia tree located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in California, United States. It is a massive sequoia tree with an estimated bole volume of 1,487 cubic meters (52,513 cubic feet). By volume, the General Sherman is the largest known tree on earth.


The General Sherman measures nearly 275 feet (84 meters) in height, 25 feet (7.7 meters) in diameter and more than 100 feet (30 meters) around. The age of the largest tree is unknown. However, its age is estimated to be 2,300-2,700 years. The General Sherman is regarded as one of the tallest, widest and longest-lived trees on the planet.


General Sherman is the mightiest giant sequoia still standing. It can be found in Sequoia National Park in California, where five of the 10 largest trees in the world exist. The General Sherman has seen civilization come and go, survived countless fires and long periods of drought, and continued to flourish - inspiring yet another generation of admirers.
