Bosco Verticale - Incredible Green Towers in Milan

Bosco Verticale is a structure consisting of two 28-storey buildings in a redeveloped area in the city of Milan. Designed by Boeri Studio, the unique structure is currently under construction. Once complete, the tower will be home to the world's first vertical forest.

Milan is one of the most polluted cities in Europe and is titled as the European capital of pollution. The Bosco Verticale is one of the projects to handle the pollution of the city. This extraordinary building, covered in plant life, will aid in balancing the micro-climate and in filtering the dust particles contained in the urban environment of Milan.

The project provides for the integration of 20,000 plants of 100 different species. There will be 900 trees in the facades of two residential towers. There will also be 11,000 ground-cover plants and 5,000 shrubs, an equivalent of 2.5 acres of forest.

Each building can hold 480 big and medium size trees with an added 250 of small size trees. Each apartment of Bosco Verticale will have a balcony planted with trees. These trees will be able to respond to the city’s weather by filtering city pollution. In summer, the trees will provide shade and in winter, the bare trees will allow sunlight to permeate through the spaces. Image source: inhabitat.com
