How to Wire a Golf Cart's Turn Signal

Some courses, like many in residential areas, require golf carts to be used in part on public roadways. This in turn means that golf cart riders have more interaction with cars and trucks, so properly installed turn signals on these golf carts are important for safety. You can retrofit and upgrade your cart by installing an aftermarket turn signal kit in approximately an hour.

Instructions

    1

Hold the light assembly against the area of the rear bumper on which it will be installed. Use a pencil to mark the bumper through the mounting holes

    2

Use a drill to drill out the mounting holes. Drill another hole in the center behind where the light will be mounted through which to run wires. Run the wires from the back of the lights into the center hole. Hold the signal in place and screw in the retaining screws. Do this on both sides so that the left and right hand side turn signals are mounted.

    3

Run the wires from the left and right turn signal over the back of the golf cart up to the front dash panel.

    4

Remove the turn signal plate on the left hand side of the steering column. Attach the left turn signal's positive and negative wires to the designated connector slots on the signal plate. Do the same to connect the right turn signal to the plate.

    5

Insert the power wire into the slot marked "Battery". Run the other end of this wire to the battery of the golf cart. Attach the negative wire to the negative battery cable and the positive wire to the positive battery cable using an adjustable wrench. Test the turn signals to make sure they work properly.
