How to Replace the Mirror on a 2005 Ford F150 Lariat Truck

The Ford F150 has been the best-selling truck in America for 13 years. The rearview mirror in a Ford F150 truck is cemented to the windshield with a special adhesive. You can purchase a rearview mirror adhesive kit at any auto parts store. The mirror mounts on a tab (a small beveled flat piece of metal) that slides into the mirror base.

Instructions

    1

Insert the small screwdriver in the slot on the mirror bracket base. Pry the tab out of the base of the mirror bracket. Clean all of the dry adhesive off the windshield mounting side of the tab, using the razor blade. The windshield mounting side of the tab is always the completely smooth side of the tab. The side with a dimple in the center of the tab faces away from the windshield.

    2

Clean off the tab with alcohol. Mark the spot on the windshield where the tab is to go. Do this from the outside looking in so when you remove the old adhesive from the windshield, you won't lose the mark.

    3

Remove the old adhesive from the inside of the windshield using a razor blade. Wipe it off with cloth and alcohol. Allow the windshield to dry.

    4

Open the mirror adhesive kit. Take out the cylinder with a cardboard cover over the bottom half. Bend the plastic tube to break it, take off the cardboard tube to expose the brush and allow the primer to soak the brush. Bush the primer all over the area where you're going to locate the tab. Allow three minutes to dry.

    5

Hold the tab in your hand with the dimple side down toward your palm and the flat, smooth side up. Make absolutely sure that when the tab is installed, the tapered end is up and the dimple is facing in. Once it touches the windshield it will not come off, which means a new windshield if it's on wrong. Place one drop of the adhesive in the center of the flat side of the tab.

    6

Place the tab's tapered end up on the spot marked on the windshield and apply pressure for one minute. Allow one hour to set up entirely and slide the rearview mirror base down over the tab and it will lock in place on the tab.
