How to Install a Diode Alltrax Controller

The Alltrax Motor Controller, which is also commonly referred to as either a diode board or a diode motor controller, is an electrical device that is a part of the charging system for go-karts, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and scooters. The motor controller works in conjunction with the alternator, starter and the battery. Specifically, it converts alternating current from the alternator to direct current that recharges the battery and runs other electrical functions on the vehicle.

Instructions

    1

Remove the negative battery cable on the vehicle you will be installing the Alltrax motor controller into with an adjustable wrench. The location of the battery will depend upon the style vehicle. If necessary, consult the owners manual to locate the battery.

    2

Locate the old diode board, which will be next to the alternator on the vehicle. The alternator location may vary. If need be, consult the owners manual to locate the alternator for the specific vehicle.

    3

Remove the retaining screw holding the old diode board in place with a Phillips screwdriver and disconnect the stator wire and the alternator wire by hand. Take the old diode board out.

    4

Set the new Alltrax motor controller in place, then plug the alternator and stator wires into the respective terminals on the controller. The terminals will be clearly marked on the Alltrax controller.

    5

Slip the mounting screw through the body of the Alltrax controller and tighten it down with the screwdriver.

    6

Replace the vehicle's negative battery cable.
