Chevrolet re-introduced the Impala as its own model in the 2000 model year, though it appeared briefly as a high-performance Caprice in the mid-1990s. The 2002 Impala came standard with a 3.4-liter V-6 engine that churned out 180 horsepower, and had an optional 200-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 engine available. The taillight bar on the 2002 Impala spans from one side of the vehicle to the other and contains two circular inserts for the brake lights, turn signals and back-up lights. The trunk lid on the 2002 Impala houses the back-up lights, so you must remove the trunk lid trim to replace these bulbs.
Instructions
- 1
Open the Impala's trunk and remove the nine plastic wing nuts holding the trim to the rearmost part of the trunk lid. Pull the trim from the trunk lid, exposing the back-up light bulbs behind it.
2Press the locking tab on the back-up bulb socket and twist the socket counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the bulb and socket from the trunk lid.
3Grab the old bulb and pull it from the socket with a slight wiggling motion. Grab a new 921 bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth and press it into the socket. Never touch this bulb with your bare hands, because the oils left behind may cause premature bulb failure.
4Insert the socket and new bulb into the trunk lid and twist it clockwise to lock it into place.
5Reinstall the trunk lid trim and tighten the nine plastic wing nuts to secure it in place. Close the trunk.
