How to Replace a Disk Brake on a 2000 Chevy Silverado

The front disc brakes on the 2000 Chevy Silverado are essentially the same as those on other vehicles. The caliper and its mounting bracket and mounted onto a disc, and this disc can be scratched, scored or have grooves dug into it over time. This will require you to replace a brake disc. Remember that the brakes have to be even on both sides to maintain proper balance. If one brake disc needs changing, there is a very good chance that the other needs changing as well.

Instructions

    1

Raise the Silverado's front end and support it on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.

    2

Unbolt and remove the brake caliper from the brake disc using your wrench. Suspend this caliper from the strut coil spring or another location using a wire. Do not disconnect or hang the caliper by its hose.

    3

Disconnect and remove the caliper mounting bracket by removing its two mounting bolts with your wrench.

    4

Slide the brake dish off the axle studs to remove it.

    5

Install the replacement brake disc onto the Silverado's axle stands.

    6

Connect the caliper bracket to the disc with its mounting bolts, then remove the caliper from the wire and bolt it to the bracket.

    7

Reconnect the wheel and lower the Silverado off the jack stands.
