Replacing the windows of a car is not only a costly affair, but also one which takes a lot of time. The good news is, you can do it yourself. So theres no need to lose patience on waiting for a repair shop to fix your window and no need to spend large amounts of money on the repair. Get together some simple tools from your toolbox and follow some simple steps to replace your car window efficiently.
Instructions
- 1
Buy a replacement window for your car. Be sure to base your purchase on the make, model, and year of the car.
2Wrap a cloth around the end of the screwdriver to gently pry off the weather stripping from around the door frame.
3Remove the panel from the inside of the door. Models are different in how they are attached. Some models have clips and some have screws. A screwdriver will be beneficial in both cases, either in unscrewing the screws or popping the clips off.
4Clean any broken glass from inside the panel. Wear heavy work gloves to avoid injury.
5Clean your new replacement window with the cloth. Be sure to clean off any debris so that it does not get into the door seals. This may prevent a tight fit between the car frame and the door.
6Use the socket wrench to remove any bolts that may be in the way, such as from the vent window.
7Consult the car's manual for the positioning guidelines of your particular vehicle before placing the window into the slot. Carefully place the window in the slot. Align the clips and secure them loosely.
8Make sure the window is operating correctly by rolling it up and down a few times. If it is, securely tighten the clips.
9Replace weather stripping and reattach the door panel.
