How to Replace a 2001 Impala Amp

The original-equipment external amplifier for your 2001 Chevrolet Impala plays a critical role in supplying power to the vehicle's speakers. The GM CY-BG2911ZC four-channel power amplifier is designed to supply a maximum of 20-watts per channel, with a total harmonic distortion ratio of less than one-half percent. A defective or damaged amplifier may fail to power all or part of the connected speakers, cause audible distortion, or frequent internal power interruptions due to exceeding the unit's thermal or circuit fault thresholds.

Instructions

Open the vehicle's hood and disconnect the negative - battery cable from the battery, using a socket and ratchet.

Examine the bottom edge of the rear seat cushion. Locate and pull the two release tabs, positioned between the rear seat cushion and floor.

Remove the rear seat cushion from the vehicle.

Examine the bottom of the rear seat back and locate the retaining nuts. Remove the retaining nuts, using a socket and ratchet. Grasp the bottom and top portions of the seat back; lift the seat back up to disengage the upper area of the seat from the vehicle.

Remove the seat back from the vehicle. Examine the upper trim panels, located above the rear shelf and rear door openings. Disengage the rear seat belts from the trim panels.

Separate the upper trim panels from the vehicle, using a trim removal tool.

Remove the two push-pin retainers, located on the forward-facing end of the shelf trim panel, using the trim removal tool or large flat-head screwdriver. Lift the shelf trim panel and slip the seat belts from each guide, located on the left and right-side ends of the panel.

Push the shelf panel forward to unhook the retainers securing the rear of the panel to the vehicle; remove the shelf panel from the vehicle to expose the square-shaped audio amplifier.

Disconnect the two audio harness connectors from the side of the amplifier.

Separate the four push-pin retainers securing the amplifier to the rear shelf, using a flat-head screwdriver or trim removal tool. Remove the amplifier from the vehicle.

Position the amplifier over the appropriate mounting area, centrally located between the two rear shelf speakers. Align the four push-pin retainers with the corresponding holes on the rear shelf; press-fit the amplifier into place.

Connect the two audio harness connectors to the amplifier.

Position the shelf panel over the rear shelf. slide the left and right-side safety belts within the slots provided at each end of the shelf panel. Secure the rear half of the shelf panel, using the hooked retainers.

Replace the two push-pin retainers to secure the forward-facing side of the shelf panel to the vehicle.

Replace the upper trim panels, using your hands to press-fit the components in place; be sure to position each seat belt out of the way, when fitting the trim pieces.

Position the seat back within the vehicle. Hold the seat back several inches above the upper retainer provisions. Press against the seat back, while lowering the cushion down to the appropriate resting position. Tug on the upper portion of the seat back to ensure the retaining hooks are properly seated.

Secure the bottom half of the seat back to the vehicle, using the original nuts, with a socket and ratchet.

Position the bottom seat cushion over the vehicle's floor pan. Feed the seat belts through the cushion's seat belt notches. Align the locking hooks at the bottom of the seat cushion with the floor-mounted locking mechanisms; press down on the cushion to lock it in place.

Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery, using a socket and ratchet.
