The automotive rearview mirror dates back to its first use in the Marmon Wasp, which was the winning vehicle in the 1911 Indianapolis 500. The newfangled invention eliminated the drivers need for an extra person to help him know when cars were approaching, thereby making the car lighter. The 2000 Buick Centurys rearview mirror is slightly more advanced than that on the 1911 Indy 500 winner, but still serves the same purpose. The 2000 Centurys rearview mirror comes as a complete assembly that includes the mirror, a long shaft and a square-shaped mount at the top. When removing the rearview mirror in the Century, you must disengage that mount from the bracket on the windshield.

3Pry the tab in the rearview mirror assembly mount downward with the flat-head screwdriver to unlock the mirror, then pull the mirror assembly upward and toward the rear of the vehicle to remove it from the bracket.
Installation
- 4
Line up the mount on the top of the new rearview mirror assembly with the bracket affixed to the windshield.
5Slide the rearview mirror assembly downward and toward the front of the vehicle until you hear its locking tab click into place. Pull upward on the mirror to ensure it is securely locked onto the bracket.
6Plug the lighted mirror's wiring harness into the receptacle on the rear of the new mirror, if applicable.
