How to Remove 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan Cooling Fan Assembly

On most vehicles, there is some kind of cooling fan mounted either to the radiator or to the engine which helps circulate air through the system. On a 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan, the cooling fan assembly is electric and mounted directly to the radiator. When the fans go out, they can't be replaced as individual components; they have to be removed as one assembly. Fortunately, this is not a difficult process, and can be done in an hour or so.

Instructions

    1

Lift up the front end of the Grand Caravan with a jack, then slide a pair of jack stands underneath the front of the chassis. Lower the Grand Caravan down onto the stands. Pop the hood.

    2

Unclip the lower radiator hose transmission cooling lines from the shroud using the flat-head screwdriver. Remove the air intake tubing from the vehicle using the flat-head screwdriver. Unbolt the coolant recovery system tank from the side of the shroud using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.

    3

Unbolt the upper radiator mounts and cross-member from the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Disconnect the electrical connections on the fans by hand. Unbolt the cooling fan assembly from the radiator using the ratchet.

    4

Remove the transmission cooler lines from the radiator using a line wrench. Unbolt the filter/drier and the bolts on the lower right-hand side of the radiator. Lift the cooling fan assembly from the engine bay with both hands.
