A new window in your Honda Civic may mean changing the glass itself, replacing the window regulator that holds the glass or both. You need to install new window glass if the current glass is cracked or broken, and you likely need a new regulator if the current one does not align the glass properly. The replacement process is very much like other vehicles, but it may vary slightly depending on the exact year of the Civic.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Detach the door's manual window crank if the door has manual windows, inserting a wire hook to disconnect its clip.
2Remove the door and pull handles, prying off their trim panels and removing their screws with a screwdriver. Disconnect the electrical connector for the power window controls if equipped.
3Pry the door trim panel off its clips with a large trim stick and lift the panel up off the upper door ridge.
4Peel back the plastic shield on the door.
5Raise the window if needed (reconnect the window control temporarily) until you can reach the window's bolts through the door frame holes. Remove the two bolts with your wrench, tilt the glass slightly and pull it up and out.
6Disconnect the electrical connector on the window regulator if it uses power windows, then remove the regulator's four bolts (they are lined up near the center of the window like a tilted rectangle) and slide it out through the door's service hole.
Installation
- 7
Insert the window regulator through the service hole and connect its bolts.
8Slide the window glass down into the door and connect it to the regulator with its bolts.
9Push the plastic shield into place and then reconnect the trim panel onto the door. Reconnect the door handles with their screws.
10Reconnect the window handle if needed.
