How to Change the Oil on Kawasaki Wave Runners

When changing the oil in a Kawasaki Wave Runner, there are certain considerations to keep in mind. These engines take serious abuse. A high percentage of time they are running at full throttle or high rpm. With this in mind, always use only 10W40 marine synthetic oil. Its specifically designed for high-rpm marine engines. Use only marine oil filters because they have a different rubber oil seal made specifically for high-oil-pressure systems. Kawasaki four-stroke engines have a semi-wet sump oiling system. This means that the bulk of the oil is contained in the oil tank above the engine, with one quart in the crankcase. The quart in the crankcase remains when the oil is changed.

Instructions

    1

Pull the dipstick out of the engine. Remove the oil filler cap. Siphon the oil out of the oil tank into the milk jug. Place rags under the oil filter located under the dipstick.

    2

Loosen the oil filter using the ratchet and cap-type oil filter remover. Place the zip lock bag over the oil filter to contain the leakage when the filter is removed. With the bag around the filter, spin the filter counterclockwise by hand to remove it.

    3

Spread some oil on the new oil filters gasket. Thread the oil filter clockwise to install it. Tighten it by hand only.

    4

Fill the oil tank with oil until it reaches the proper mark on the oil dipstick. Install the oil cap and dipstick.
