Where Is the Fuse Box in a 1993 Mazda Protege?

In 1990, Mazda added a new sedan to their lineup: the Protege. The 1993 Protege was a simple car that did not have a large amount of electrical systems. A series of fuses throughout the Protege protected the few electronic systems in the sedan. The 1993 Protege has two fuse boxes installed: one in the engine compartment and one inside the passenger cabin.

Under-Hood Fuse Box

The 1993 Protege has one fuse box located under the vehicle's hood, on the driver's side of the engine compartment; it has a rectangular, plastic lid. The under-hood fuse box houses high-amperage fuses that protect several circuits each. The circuits protected include: the main circuit, the fuel injection system, the headlights, the hazard lights, the door locks, the stoplights, the taillights, the cooling fans and the engine control unit.

Passenger Compartment Fuse Block

Mazda installed the 1993 Protege's passenger compartment fuse block on the driver's side of the dashboard, near the driver's knee. There is a removable access panel covering this fuse block. This panel houses low-amperage fuses to protect all of the individual electrical circuits -- 15 fuses and one circuit breaker, in total.
