How to Remove the Mirrors on a 1992 Civic

The 1992 Honda Civic was available with the option of three different 1.5-liter engines; a 16-valve, 8-valve, and VTEC. A 1.6-liter VTEC in-line four-cylinder was also available for the 1992 Civic. The side-view mirrors on the 1992 Civic were manually controlled in the base models. Upgraded models were equipped with electronically controlled mirrors. The replacement instructions are similar for the electronic and manual controlled side-view mirrors. The 1992 Civic interior rear-view mirror may need to be replaced sometime because the lens cracks or the mirror loosens from the windshield slide track.

Instructions

Side-view Mirror Replacement

    1

Open the door on the side of the vehicle that you are going to replace the mirror on. Remove the small cap on the control knob of a manual mirror, using a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the screw from the center of the knob with a Philips screwdriver. Pull the control knob assembly off the mirror control post. If you have electric mirrors, proceed to Step 2 and disregard the manual knob directions.

    2

Remove the triangular cap from the forward portion of the front door, just inward from the side-view mirror. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the cap free. If you have a manual mirror, do not lose the small metal clip that attaches the plastic cover to the door.

    3

Remove the three side-view mirror mounting screws, with a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver. Hold the mirror with your free hand when removing the screws, so the mirror does not fall out of the car. Pull the mirror outward to remove it from the car. Disconnect the electrical connector by hand, if you have electronically controlled mirrors.

    4

Install the new side-view mirror onto the Civic. Install all three mounting screws by hand, and start them with your fingers to ensure proper threading. Connect the electrical connector. Tighten the mirror mounting screws completely, using a Phillips screwdriver.

    5

Install the plastic triangular cover over the mirror. Install the manual control knob if equipped, and tighten the screw snug with a Phillips screwdriver. Install the small cap onto the control knob.

    6

Repeat steps 1 through 5 to complete the side-view mirror replacement on the second side of the Civic, if needed.

Interior Rear-view Mirror

    7

Open the driver or passenger side door, and sit in either front seat. Remove the small plastic cap on the top of the interior mirror stem where it meets the windshield. Use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the cap loose.

    8

Remove the two No, 1 head Phillips screws from the underside of the mirror mounting base at the windshield. Slide the mirror upward and out of the plastic track that is adhered to the front windshield. If the mirror track mount on the windshield is loose at all, insert a small amount of mirror installation glue behind it and hold the track to the windshield for about two minutes. Do not attempt to use the glue if the temperature is below 53 degrees Fahrenheit.

    9

Install the new interior rear-view mirror onto the slide track. Gently push the mirror onto the track so you do not separate the track from the windshield. If the mirror gets stuck at all during installation, remove the mirror from the track and start over. Slide the mirror on until it hits the stoppers at the bottom of the slide track. Install the two screws and tighten them snug with your No. 1 Phillips screwdriver. Install the plastic cover back onto the mirror base by hand.
