In 1982, Chevrolet replaced the Isuzu-built LUV -- short for light utility vehicle -- with the S-10 pickup. The 2002 S-10 -- only three years away from its elimination -- came standard with a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine and had an optional 4.3-liter V-6 engine available. The 2002 S-10 also had the option of adding a keyless entry system, allowing you to unlock the doors of your vehicle from a distance. When replacing a remote for this system, you must reprogram the new remote to the truck's computer. This procedure involves a series of complex steps to avoid inadvertent programming.
Instructions
- 1
Sit in the S-10 with the key in the ignition -- key in the "Off" position -- and the driver's door open.
2Close the driver's door and remove the key from the ignition.
3Press and hold the "Unlock" button on the driver's side door lock. Insert and remove the ignition key two times. Insert the key one last time and leave it in the ignition.
4Release the "Unlock" switch and listen for the S-10 to beep. This beep indicates that the S-10 is in program mode.
5Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on the keyless entry remote for five seconds. Listen for the S-10 to beep two times, indicating you have programmed the remote correctly.
6Repeat Step 5 for up to four keyless entry remotes.
7Remove the ignition key.
