How to Master Rebuild a Transmission

When you want to master rebuild a transmission, you need to use a kit specifically built for that transmission. If you use the wrong parts, the transmission may not work or it may break the transmission so badly that it will need to be completely replaced. When taking apart the transmission, be careful and inspect each part. You will need to know where each part goes so you do not improperly assemble it.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the transmission from the engine. On most engines, you will have to remove the top portion of the engine to get to the transmission. The transmission has a bullet-like design, so remove any part around it. Use the 3/8 inch wrench and the socket set to unscrew all bolts holding the transmission and engine pieces around the transmission in place.

    2

Pull the transmission out of the engine. This will give you more room to get inside the transmission to rebuild all of the parts.

    3

Unscrew all bolts securing the seals, bearings and gaskets inside the transmission. Take pictures with a camera so you know where everything is.

    4

Clean the outside portion of the transmission with engine degreaser.

    5

Replace the seals, bearings and gaskets with the pieces in the master transmission rebuild kit. Reconnect the transmission parts using the camera's pictures as a reference.

    6

Reconnect the transmission to the engine.
