How to Change Oil on a Craftsman 6.25 Lawnmower

Check the oil level regularly prior to operating the Craftsman lawnmower. For the longest service life of the engine, change the oil after every 20 hours of running. These engines do not have any type of oil filter, so any metal or other contamination can shorten the life of the connecting rod bearing. This engine requires just shy of a quart of 30W oil. The oil drain plug is located in the bottom of the engine just above the cutting blade.

Instructions

    1

Pull the spark plug wire off the plug to prevent accidental starting or kickback when moving the blade. Tip the left side of the mower up and move the blade to gain access to the drain plug above the blade.

    2

Place the drain bucket under the mower. Remove the drain plug using a wrench to turn it counterclockwise. Lower the mower so the oil drains into the drain bucket.

    3

Install the oil drain plug and tighten it firmly with a wrench. Remove the cap from the oil filler tube and pour of a quart of oil in the engine.

    4

Install the oil cap and dipstick combination and check the oil level on even ground. Add oil as needed until the level is on the full mark on the dipstick. Replace the cap.
