Where Is the Fuel Relay Switch on a 1995 Altima?

The Altima began its production life in the 1993 model year as the simple, yet more modern replacement for the aged Nissan Stanza. The 1995 Altima came equipped with a 159-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which received fuel via sequential electronic fuel injection. The relay for the fuel pump, which delivers fuel to the injection system, acts as a switch, as it has an electromagnet that activates when you turn on the ignition. This magnet pulls a pivoting switch downward to complete the circuit inside the relay, thereby delivering power to the fuel pump. Locating the fuel pump relay on the 1995 Altima is tricky, as there are multiple boxes that contain fuses and relays on this vehicle.

Instructions

    1

Open the Altimas hood and find the relay box, the black rectangular box on the passengers side of the battery.

    2

Pull outward on the locking tab on the bottom of the front of the relay box and pivot the lid upward to open the relay box.

    3

Find the fuel pump relay, the third relay from the front inside the relay box.

    4

Grab the fuel pump relay firmly and pull it upward with a slight wiggling motion to remove it.

    5

Line up the prongs on the bottom of the fuel pump relay with the slots in its receptacle in the relay box, in preparation for reinstalling the relay. Press it into its receptacle until it seats fully.

    6

Pivot the relay box lid downward to close it, then press downward on the lid firmly until you hear it latch into place.

    7

    Close the Altimas hood.
