How to Replace Versa Engine Coolant

Nissan recommends that you change the engine coolant in your Versa's radiator once every three years. Check the coolant frequently for any debris, contaminants or variations in color. Drain and replace the coolant at the first sign of any contamination. Most auto parts stores will accept the used coolant for recycling at no charge to you. When you drain the system, you need to purge any air from the hoses after refilling it to avoid overheating.

Instructions

    1

Raise and secure the Versa's hood. Check the engine to be sure it is cool. Remove the radiator cap.

    2

Place a large drain pan under the passenger side of the radiator, beneath the drain plug. Loosen the drain plug by hand until the coolant drains. After the coolant drains, completely tighten the plug and remove the drain pan.

    3

Remove the drain pan from under the car. Remove the cap from the radiator. Pour a mixture of 50 percent distilled water and 50 percent antifreeze into the radiator until it is full.

    4

Start the engine of the Versa and let it idle until the engine warms up. Continue adding the antifreeze/distilled water blend, as needed, when the coolant level drops in the radiator.

    5

Turn off the ignition once the engine has warmed up. Wait for the engine to cool completely, then top off the coolant. Replace the radiator cap.
