In the 1980 model year, Toyota released an all-new subcompact car named the Corolla Tercel. In 1983, Toyota completely redesigned the Tercel and dropped "Corolla" from the name. The 1991 model year brought about another complete redesign of the Tercel, as it moved to a more rounded and aerodynamic design. With this redesign came a change of the headlight system, from a sealed beam system to a semi-sealed beam system. Instead of using a large glass headlight, the 1991 Tercel used a plastic assembly with a small, capsule-style bulb inserted into it. Replacing the headlight bulb on the 1991 Tercel's headlight assembly is a task that nearly any do-it-yourself mechanic can complete.
Instructions
- 1
Open the hood and unplug the wiring harness from the rear of the headlight assembly, by pulling up on the locking tab and pulling the harness away from the assembly.
2Turn the plastic locking ring on the rear of the headlight assembly counterclockwise to unlock the headlight bulb. Pull the bulb and locking ring from the headlight assembly.
3Grab a new 9004 headlight bulb by its plastic base and insert it in the rear of the headlight assembly, making certain to line up the tabs on the headlight bulb with the notches in the headlight assembly. Set the locking ring over the rear of the bulb and turn it clockwise to lock it in place.
4Plug the wiring harness into the receptacle on the rear of the headlight bulb. Listen for it to snap into place.
5Close the hood.
