How to Change a Cornering Lamp in a 2002 Buick Regal

General Motor's launched the Buick Regal in the 1973 model year, and GM dubbed it a "personal luxury vehicle." In 1988, Buick took the Regal in a completely different direction, as the maker converted the popular two-door vehicle from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive. In 1997, Buick redesigned the Regal again, giving it a much more modern appearance, including rounded headlights and a sleek body design. The rounded headlight assemblies included side-marker lights, which are commonly called cornering lights. Replacing the side-marker bulbs in the 2002 Regal involves removing the headlight assembly.

Instructions

    1

Open the Regal's hood and locate the two plastic headlight assembly-retaining latches: one on either end of the rear of the headlight assembly. Pull upward on the two headlight assembly-retaining latches to release the headlight assembly.

    2

Pull the headlight assembly outward. Disconnect the wiring harness from the rear of the headlight assembly by pressing the locking button and pulling the harness from the rear of the headlight assembly. Remove the headlight assembly from the front of the Regal.

    3

Pull the rubber bulb cover from behind the side-marker bulb --- the outermost bulb.

    4

Rotate the side-marker bulb counterclockwise to unlock it and pull the socket and bulb from the headlight assembly.

    5

Pull the burned-out bulb from the socket, using a slight wiggling motion. Press a new 194 bulb using a clean, lint-free cloth it into the socket -- the cloth prevents the oils on your hand from contacting the bulb, which can cause bulb failure.

    6

Insert the socket and new bulb into the headlight assembly, and twist it clockwise to lock it into place. Press the rubber cover back in place over the side-marker socket.

    7

Set the headlight assembly back into place on the front of the Regal. Hold rearward pressure on the headlight assembly, and press downward on the headlight assembly-retaining latches to lock it into place.

    8

    Close the Regal's hood.
