A lock-right locker, used on off-road vehicles, reduces the excessive noise, drive train damage and tire wear by unlocking automatically to allow full differentiation in turns. Installing a lock-right locker in an existing case assembly takes no special tools or oils. Most take between one to two hours to install. Each locker unit provides detailed instructions including photos and diagrams. Completing the installation process requires basic mechanical skills and common tools. There are two types of installations for the lock-right locker and the process may differ, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
Instructions
Rear Differential Cover
- 1
Jack up the rear end of the vehicle. Remove the tires, brake calipers, locking hubs and rotors to install the lock-right locker.
2Drain the oil by removing the bolts on the differential cover. Position the wrench on the bolt, grip it firmly and turn the bolt counter-clockwise to unscrew it from the differential cover.
3Take the cross shaft off by removing the retaining bolt that holds it in place. Place the wrench over the bolt, turn it counter-clockwise and unscrew it from the cross shaft.
4Push in each axle and remove the c-clips, if the vehicle has c-clips to hold the axle in place.
5Remove the stock side, spider gears and thrust washers located on the spider gears.
6Install the lock-right locker in place of the original side. Reuse the thrust washers and put them back on the vehicle.
7Install the spider gears and if the vehicle uses c-clips, put them back in place as well.
8Put the cross shaft back on the vehicle and secure it with the retaining bolt. Use your hand to get the retaining bolt started and position the wrench on the bolt to tighten it down.
9Install the differential cover, replace the bolts to secure it in place and put the required amount of oil in the vehicle.
Third Member Installation
- 10
Jack up the front of the vehicle. Remove the tires, brake calipers, locking hubs and rotors to install the lock-right locker.
11Locate and disconnect the drive shaft. Loosen the nuts, remove the bolts at the U-joint where it connects to the yoke and lower the drive shaft to the ground.
12Locate the third member and remove it from the differential carrier.
13Take off the side gears, spider gears and thrust washers located on the spider gears.
14Install the lock-right locker in place of the original side and now you are ready to put your vehicle back together.
15Reuse the thrust washers you took off the vehicle and then reinstall the spider gears.
16Install the cross shaft and secure it with the retaining bolts. Put the third member back in place, reconnect the drive shaft and fill the vehicle with oil.
