How to Replace a Window in a 1991 Ford Explorer

Replacing a window in your 1991 Ford Explorer is pretty much the same process that you would find in any Ford vehicle. Leaving a damaged window unattended can cause serious problems as it may result in your vehicle being stolen. To avoid this you need to replace the window as soon as you notice any damage. You can pick up a replacement window for your Explorer from your local auto store.

Instructions

    1

Open up the door of your explorer and use a phillips-head screwdriver to remove the mounting screws which fix the door panel in place. Pull the door panel away from the door.

    2

Remove the mounting screws which fix the speakers to the door. Unhook the electrical connectors and pull the speakers away from the door.

    3

Pull the window regulator as far down as you can within the door access panel. Locate the hex bolts which connect the window glass to the window regulator.

    4

Use a hex wrench to remove the hex bolts which connect them both together. Lift the window glass out of the window frame.

    5

Insert the new pane of glass in to the frame. Line up the holes in the bottom of the glass with those on the regulator. Attach the hex bolts between them both to secure it in place. Reconnect the door panel by placing it on to the door and securing it in place with the mounting screws.
