How to Remove the Rectifier on a VTR-1000

The VTR-1000 Firestorm is a v-twin engine motorcycle manufactured by Honda Motor Company. The Firestorm charging system includes an alternator and battery, along with a diode board, more commonly referred to as a rectifier. The Firestorm's rectifier converts alternating current from the alternator and turns it into direct current, which charges the motorcycle's battery. Over time, the diodes on the rectifier board can burn out, which can cause electrical problems on the motorcycle. Purchase replacement rectifier boards from the Honda dealership or a motorcycle parts house.

Instructions

    1

Set the adjustable wrench to the proper size and then fit it over the negative battery cable bolt and turn left to loosen the bolt. Pull the negative battery cable off to remove it.

    2

Locate the rectifier pack. It is on the right side of the rear sub-frame on the Firestorm.

    3

Grasp the plastic wiring harness that the rectifier pack plugs into and then disconnect it by hand.

    4

Slip the adjustable wrench over the rectifier's retaining bolt. Turn it to the left to loosen and remove it. Lift the old rectifier out once the bolt is loosened and taken out.
