The E36 is a compact car produced by BMW. The E36 comes out of the factory with halogen fog lights. If you wish for an increased brightness of your fog lights, or if you simply want the fog lights to match the headlights, you can install HID fog lights within a matter of minutes. You can purchase an HID fog light kit from most online automotive parts stores or from your local BMW dealership.

Lift up the hood and remove the rear cover from the fog light assembly from the back of the bumper. Remove the halogen bulb assembly by twisting it counterclockwise and pulling it out of the E36.
2Use a pair of wire cutters to cut the wires going out of the bulb. Remove the housing of the fog light and remove the halogen bulb.
3Use a soldering iron to solder the bulb wires to the new fog light connectors from the kit. Make sure you connect the black connector to the black wire and the red connector to the red wire for proper polarity.
4Reattach the housing to the assembly. Cut off the wire connectors from the ballast of the HID assembly.
5Reach into the engine compartment and use the wire cutters to cut the bulb connection from the vehicle. Try to leave some extra wire to work with.
6Use a soldering iron to connect the HID connector to the vehicle wires. The yellow wire should go with the black wire and the brown wire should go with the red wire. Cover the wires with electrical tape.
7Install the HID bulb assembly into the back of the front bumper, properly connecting both of the wires and connections.
8Replace the fog light fuses in the engine compartment fuse block with two 20A fuses. Close the hood.
