How to Install a 2006 Dodge Dakota Driver Side Mirror

Installing a side view mirror on a 2006 Dodge Dakota is relatively simple; however, it does require removing the door panel to access the electrical plug. The door panel is held on with Phillips screws and trim fasteners, which are easily disengaged. The top forward edge of the door has a triangular extension with holes to mount the mirror backed by a plastic cover held on with a screw.

Instructions

    1

Turn the key on and lower the window. Remove the Phillips screws with the screwdriver: one in the armrest, one under the inside door handle, two on the bottom of the panel and one in the side view mirror cover on the top front of the door.

    2

Place the common screwdriver between the door panel and the door and pry the trim fasteners out on all three sides of the door. Hold the door panel a few inches away from the door as you release the inside door handle rod clip on the door panel by pulling it to the side to release it. Unplug all the connectors on the window switch.

    3

Disconnect the mirror electrical connector. Remove the three nuts on the side view mirror studs that secure the mirror to the door and separate the mirror from the door.

    4

Install the new side view mirror studs through the holes in the mounting surface on the door, install the nuts and tighten them with the socket. Hold the door panel close to the door while plugging in the electrical connectors for the mirror and the window switch.

    5

Snap the door handle rod into the clips holding it to the door. Align the door trim fasteners with the holes in the door and push the panel in to lock in place. Install the Phillips screws on the bottom of the door, in the armrest, in front and under the door handle and, finally, in the plastic concealment cover over the side view mirror-attachment point.
