Newer models of the GMC Jimmy come with digital gauges in the vehicle's instrument cluster. If the gauges begin to malfunction, you could have an issue with the fuse, the instrument cluster's wiring connector or the gauges themselves. If that's the case, the instrument cluster will need to be replaced. Although the gauges are not necessary for the operation of your vehicle, they do make for a safer drive as they provide vital information concerning your vehicle, such as the speed at which you are traveling and your vehicle's acceleration.
Instructions
- 1
Open the Jimmy's hood and remove the fuse-block's cover. Remove the fuse in slot 4 with a fuse-puller and replace it with a new 15A fuse. Reattach the cover to the fuse-block. If the gauges are still malfunctioning, you may need to check the wiring connector of the cluster.
2Disconnect the battery from the Jimmy using a socket wrench.
3Remove the four screws from the Jimmy's instrument cluster using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the two screws from the upper-dash panel and remove the panel.
4Reach behind the cluster to locate the wiring connector. Plug it into the rear of the cluster. If the wiring connector is plugged in, but the gauges are still malfunctioning, the issue may be with the cluster itself. In this case, the cluster will need to be replaced.
5Disconnect the cluster's wiring connector and remove the cluster from the Jimmy. Place a replacement cluster into the Jimmy and attach the wiring connector. Reattach the upper-dash trim and the screws. Reconnect the battery and close the hood.
