How to Change a Brake Rotor on a 2000 Cadillac

Changing your brake pads or removing and "turning" the old rotors (or replacing them) will ensure that both the surface on the new pads and the rotors are flat and smooth, maximizing the contact patch between them.

Instructions

    1

Use the jack to lift the car in the air and then set it down on the jack stands. Remove the wheels and tires using the tire iron, then place them out of the way.

    2

Unbolt the brake caliper assembly from the steering knuckle using the ratchet. Support the caliper on a jack stand or similar object, making sure that the brake line is slack.

    3

Lift the rotor off of the car with both hands. If it's frozen or stuck on the lugs, use a rubber mallet to tap it free from the backside. Then lift the replacement rotor onto the hub and tighten down two lug nuts onto the studs using your hands to keep the rotor on the hub.

    4

Bolt the brake caliper onto the steering knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then remove the wheel lugs you installed in Step 3 using your hands. Reinstall the wheels and tires with the tire iron, then place the car back down on the ground using the jack.
