How to Replace the Turn Signal Lamp in a Rear Taillight for a 2007 Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban's roots date all the way back to 1939, with the release of the Suburban Carryall. This version of the Suburban was simply a panel truck with windows installed and seats put in the cargo hull. The modern Suburban saw life in 1973, when Chevrolet completely redesigned the large SUV. The 2007 Suburban came in three different sizes: 1500, 2500 and 3500. All three versions had the same basic styling, including vertical taillight assemblies on the rear. Replacing the turn signal bulb in the taillight assembly on the 2007 Suburban is a fairly easy task.

Instructions

    1

Open the Suburban's rear hatch. Remove the two screws on the inner part of the taillight assembly with a Phillips screwdriver.

    2

Pull the taillight lens away from the rear of the SUV. Turn the taillight assembly over and locate the turn signal socket -- the socket at the bottom of the assembly.

    3

Twist the turn signal socket counterclockwise to unlock it, and pull the socket and bulb from the taillight lens.

    4

Pull the burnt-out bulb from the socket with a slight wiggling motion.

    5

Grab the new 3047 turn signal bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth and push it into the turn signal socket.

    6

Insert the turn signal socket and new bulb into the rear of the taillight assembly and twist the socket clockwise to lock it into place.

    7

Line up the pins on the rear of the taillight lens with the holes in the rear of the Suburban and press the taillight lens into place. Tighten the two screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
