How to Remove the Honda CR-X Lower Ball Joint

The lower ball joint on your Honda CR-X is situated between the control arm and steering knuckle underneath the vehicle. Make sure the lower ball joints are always working correctly because they are important components of the CR-X's steering system. If your Honda CR-X's lower ball joints need to be repaired or replaced, you need to remove them from the vehicle. Removing the CR-X ball joints is a fairly simple task that should not take more than an hour.

Instructions

    1

Raise the CR-X with a jack. Position two jack stands at the front of the CR-X to support it.

    2

Remove the nuts from the front wheel on the side where you will be replacing the ball joint using a tire wrench. Remove the wheel.

    3

Disconnect the brake caliper and remove the brake disc using a socket wrench.

    4

Remove the cotter pin from the lower control arm using pliers.

    5

Remove the lower ball joint nut from the lower control arm. Separate the ball joint from the lower control arm using a ball joint removal fork.

    6

Remove the three bolts from the ball joint and remove the ball joint from the steering knuckle.

    7

Position the replacement ball joint onto the steering knuckle and reattach the three bolts to secure the ball joint.

    8

Reattach the lower ball joint nut to the lower control arm.

    9

Reattach the cotter pin, brake disc and brake caliper. Reattach the wheel, remove the jack stands and lower the CR-X.
