How to Reset the "Service Now" Light on a 2007 Volkswagen Passat

In 1974, Volkswagen upgraded its lineup with the release of the Dasher in the United States (the rest of the world knew the Dasher as the Passat). In 1982, Volkswagen eliminated the Dasher and replaced it with the Quantum. The Quantum had a short production life, as the Passat arrived to replace it in 1990. The 2006 model year marked the beginning of the third generation for the Passat. The third generation was more modern and sleeker than any previous ones, giving the midsized sedan a somewhat sporty appearance. The 2007 Passat had a feature that alerted the driver when service was due, by way of a Service Now light on the dashboard. There are two ways to reset this light, and the process depends on whether your Passat has a menu display or not.

Instructions

With Menu Display

    1

Turn the Passats ignition On, but dont start the engine. Use the arrow buttons on the steering wheel or the rocker button on the windshield wiper stalk to toggle the menu to the Settings option. Press the Ok button on the windshield wiper stalk or the steering wheel.

    2

Enter the Service option by toggling through the Settings until you reach the Service option, using the rocker button on the wiper stalk or the arrow buttons on the steering wheel. Press the Ok button.

    3

Toggle to the Reset option in the "Service" function with the steering wheel arrow buttons or the wiper stalk rocker switch. Press Ok to initiate the resetting of the system.

    4

Press the Ok button again when prompted by the menu, and watch as the Service Now light extinguishes.

Without Menu Display

    5

Turn the Passats ignition to the Off position, if needed.

    6

Press and hold the OD/Set button on the bottom-right corner of the instrument cluster, and turn the ignition to the On position without starting the engine.

    7

Release the OD/Set button, then press and release the "Clock set" button -- the button on the bottom-left of the instrument cluster with a clock image on it -- within 20 seconds of releasing the OD/Set button.

    8

Observe as the Service Now light turns off.
