How to Replace the Left Front Window Motor in a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero

The window regulator on a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero is a cable-type assembly. The cable is notorious for breaking pulleys and twisting. The motor and regulator are separate parts but can be purchased as a complete unit. To remove and replace the motor, you must remove the regulator from the door. If you can hear the motor operating when the switch is activated, the regulator is bad. No noise from the motor or intermittent operation is indicative of a bad motor.

Remove the two screws behind the cover. Pop the lower marker light out of the door panel, using a screwdriver, and remove the screw behind it.
