How to Repair a GM CD Radio

If the CD player/radio in your GM vehicle is malfunctioning, you may have an issue with the fuse, the wiring connector of the radio, or the radio itself. In order to use your radio, you will need to address the issue. Thankfully, all three problems are fairly common and have simple solutions. The entire repair process should only take 20 minutes or so, although if the radio itself is the problem, you may need to purchase a new stereo unit.

Instructions

    1

Lift the vehicle's hood and pull off the fuse block cover.

    2

Remove the radio fuse from the fuse block. Most GM vehicles have the location of each fuse printed on the underside of the fuse block cover, but if you are still unsure, check your vehicle's owner's manual.

    3

Install a replacement fuse and place the cover back on the fuse block. Close the hood.

    4

Open the driver's door. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the covering dash trim from the central dash.

    5

Remove the four screws from the radio with a Phillips-head screwdriver.

    6

Pull the radio out. Connect the wiring connector at the rear of the radio. If the wiring connector is connected and the radio is still malfunctioning, disconnect the wiring connector and remove the radio from the vehicle.

    7

Install a replacement radio and reconnect the wiring connector. Reattach the screws and the covering dash trim.
