How to Change a Tail Light on a 2006 Chrysler Minivan

In 1984, Chrysler Corporation shook up the family car world with the release of two minivans -- the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Caravan. In 1990, Chrysler released a luxury minivan, dubbed the Chrysler Town & Country. In 2005, Chrysler slightly redesigned the Town & Country, giving it the automaker's signature headlights, but the taillights remained the same. Replacing the taillight bulbs in the 2006 Town & Country has only requires one tool and less than an hour's time.

Instructions

    1

Open the Town & Country's rear hatch and locate the two plastic pins securing the inner part of the taillight assembly to the rear hatch jamb. Insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver under the center part of the pins and pry upward to unlock the pins. Pry the pins out of the taillight assembly.

    2

Pull the taillight assembly from the rear of the minivan.

    3

Turn the taillight assembly over and press the locking tabs on the top and bottom of the socket plate -- the roughly 2-by-5 inch plastic piece on the rear of the taillight assembly -- and pull the socket plate from the taillight assembly. Notice that the bulbs remain attached to the socket plate.

    4

Grab the lower bulb on the socket plate -- the taillight bulb -- and pull it from the socket plate with a slight wiggling motion. Grasp the new 3057 taillight bulb by its plastic base and press it into the socket plate. Don't touch the glass part of the bulb with your hands, as oils from your hands can cause the bulb to burn out prematurely.

    5

Set the socket plate back on the rear of the taillight assembly, guiding the bulbs into the holes on the assembly. Press the socket plate until it snaps into place.

    6

Place the taillight assembly back on the rear of the Town & Country and insert the plastic pins to secure it. Press the center of the pins inward to lock the pins in place. Close the rear hatch.
